First Steps German
In 8 weeks you will hold your first conversations in German. Twice a week, live with a qualified teacher from Germany.
15 places only. Registration closes at the end of September.
Why learn with Studyfreunde
A qualified teacher from Germany
Not an app and not a recording. You learn with a German teacher who has been teaching here in Ghana for years, all the way up to C1.
Pay with mobile money
No card needed, no foreign currency, no international transfer fees. You pay in cedis, the way you pay for everything else.
Join from anywhere in Ghana
Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi or anywhere else. All you need is a laptop or phone and a stable connection.
Who teaches this course
Studyfreunde is led by Vanessa, a qualified German teacher. Born and raised in Germany, she moved to Accra to share her language and her love of teaching. She teaches every lesson herself, from the very little ones discovering their first German words to adults preparing for a new chapter in Germany, and she has taught learners here all the way to C1.
Studyfreunde grew from one belief: that learners thrive when they feel safe, seen and genuinely supported. That belief shapes this course too. You will not be a name on a long list. You will be part of a small group, taught by someone who knows what learning German in Ghana actually involves.
Who this course is for
Complete beginners
You have never learned German, or you tried once and stopped. We start at zero and no one is left behind.
Moving to Germany
Work, study, training or joining family. This course gives you the foundation everything else builds on.
A group of 15, not 50
Small enough that you speak in every lesson, not just listen. That is where the language actually starts.
What you will be able to do
By the end of week 8 you can introduce yourself, shop, ask for directions, talk about your family and your work, and hold a simple conversation in German.
| Week | What we cover | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Greetings, introductions, the alphabet, pronunciation | Introduce yourself and spell your name |
| 2 | Numbers, colours, where you are from, question words | Ask and answer basic questions |
| 3 | Sentence structure, verbs in the present, yes-no questions | Build your own sentences and questions |
| 4 | Family and possessives | Talk about the people in your life |
| 5 | Food, drink, shopping, the accusative | Order and pay for things |
| 6 | Telling the time, daily routine, separable verbs | Say when you do what |
| 7 | Home, town, asking for directions | Find your way and ask for help |
| 8 | Work, jobs, revision, small talk | Hold a simple conversation |
An honest word about A1. Eight weeks give you 16 hours of teaching. A full A1 certificate takes around 80 to 100. This course is your foundation towards A1, not the certificate itself, and the courses below take you the rest of the way.
And after these 8 weeks
Finish First Steps and your place in the next course is open to you. Together the three courses take you to a full A1.

What it costs
for the full 8 week course, 16 live lessons
Prefer to spread it? Pay GHS 800 now and GHS 800 before week 5.
Two scholarship places
Two places on each course are available at GHS 600. If the full fee would keep you from joining, send us a short message telling us why German matters for your plans. We choose two before registration closes.
How registration works. Send us a message on WhatsApp, we confirm your place and send an invoice. Payment by mobile money secures your seat. Places are not held without payment.
Questions people ask
What if I miss a lesson?
Life happens. Send us a message and we will share what the group covered so you can catch up. The fee covers the course, not individual attendance.
Do I need to buy books?
No. All materials are included and sent to you before each week.
Will the lessons be recorded?
The course is live and built around speaking with each other, so recordings are not a substitute for taking part.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. GHS 800 when you register and GHS 800 before week 5, both by mobile money.
I would rather learn in person
We also teach in small groups of no more than four learners at our centre in Accra, from complete beginner up to C1, with materials, homework feedback and access to our German library. See our in-person classes.
