Every new learner at Studyfreunde starts with a free trial lesson, whether your child is three or seventeen. No commitment, no pressure, just a chance to meet us, experience the lesson, and find the right fit.
Free placement
The first lesson doubles as your child’s placement, and it takes the full sixty minutes. Vanessa starts with easy tasks in speaking, reading and writing, then works up level by level until she can place your child precisely. At the end you get the result in person, with her feedback and the group that fits. For young children there is no test at all, we simply watch how they join in.

What happens in your free trial lesson
A trial lesson is a real lesson, not a sales meeting. It runs the full sixty minutes, in the room where your child would actually learn, with the teacher who would actually teach them. German is spoken from the first minutes, because that is how every lesson here begins, whether the learner is three years old or preparing for a Goethe exam.
For young children the hour is built around speaking, singing and moving, with very little writing. For older children and teenagers there is more reading, writing and grammar. What does not change is that everyone in the room talks. Groups never grow beyond four learners, so nobody sits quietly at the back for an hour.
Sometimes the trial takes place one to one, sometimes inside the group your child would be joining. Both work well, and we tell you which it will be when we agree the time, so nothing on the day is a surprise.
How we find the right level
Your child takes a lesson rather than a test. By the end of the hour we usually know which group fits. With children we keep watching through the first week or two in the group, because how a child actually keeps up in a real lesson says far more than a score on paper. If a group turns out not to be the right one, we say so and move your child to the one that is.
The single exception is a teenager working towards a Goethe exam with a deadline. There a short written check is worth the time, because it shows exactly how far they still are from the level they need. Otherwise there is nothing to prepare and nothing to revise beforehand. Booking your trial lesson
Fill in the short form below, or send us a message on WhatsApp at +233 25 693 3270. Tell us who is learning, roughly what German they already have, and when you are free. We answer personally, usually within one working day, with one or two times that match the groups currently running.
Teaching hours are Tuesday to Friday from 12pm to 5pm and Saturday from 10am to 2pm, and lessons outside those hours are possible by agreement. We teach at 1 Alex Nkrumah Street in Airport West, Accra. Please arrange your visit with us first, so that a teacher is free when you arrive.
Before you come
Please arrive 15 minutes before your lesson starts. You are welcome to wait in reception until the room is free. Lessons are 60 minutes and run back to back, so arriving a quarter of an hour early means the lesson can begin on time and the full hour is spent learning rather than settling in.
Bring nothing at all for the trial lesson. Books, worksheets and everything else are here. If your teenager has an exam deadline, bring any certificates or school reports, so we can see exactly where they stand.
After your trial lesson
You decide afterwards, in your own time, and there is no pressure in either direction. If you join, you choose how often your child comes: one lesson a week, two or three. Books, worksheets and marked homework are included, there is no registration fee, and you can stop at the end of any month. From the second family member onwards there is a discount, which you can see on the pricing and enrolment page.
If you would rather meet us before booking a lesson at all, the Saturday German playgroup from 1pm to 2pm is an easy first step for children from three to eleven, and teenagers can join the Jugendtreff. Registration is needed, and it is free for Studyfreunde learners.

Is the trial lesson really free?
Yes. Every new learner gets one free trial lesson, there is nothing to sign beforehand and no registration fee at any point.
How do you find the right level?
It is part of the trial lesson rather than a separate appointment, and it uses the whole hour. Vanessa starts with easy tasks in speaking, reading and writing and works up until she can place your child precisely. At the end you get the result in conversation, with her feedback and the group she recommends. If your teenager already holds a Goethe certificate, bring it along, that saves time.
How long does it take?
Sixty minutes, exactly like every other lesson, so you see the real thing rather than a shortened version of it.
Do we need to bring or prepare anything?
No. All the material is here. Just come as you are, and bring your questions.
Can parents try a lesson too?

Do we have to wait for a course to start?
No. There are no terms and no fixed start dates. Groups are formed by age and by level, and we tell you which one currently has space.
What if we decide it is not for us?
Then that is the end of it, and it has cost you nothing but an hour. We would still rather you tried and knew, than wondered.
