German classes in Airport West, Accra
I have enjoyed all my classes and so has my daughter! Our German is improving and I’m beginning to feel more confident. I am so grateful to have found Vanessa!
She’s a great teacher! She knows what she’s doing. She knows how to teach and I love the colourful study papers she uses to enhance learning in a fun way! I recommend Vanessa 1000%. Thank you Studyfreunde!

Small groups, qualified native teacher, real progress
Every learner at Studyfreunde is taught by Vanessa, a native German speaker with a teaching qualification and a Master of Education. In-person groups never grow beyond four learners, so there is room to speak, ask questions and be corrected in every lesson.
Children are placed by age and by level, not by age alone: early learning from three, kids and teens, and adults at every level up to C2. A child who already speaks German at home works on reading and writing, while a beginner starts with everyday words. Materials are included, homework is checked, and the feedback shapes what comes next.

Current timetable
When our groups meet
Groups run Tuesday to Friday afternoons and on Saturday mornings, for children, teenagers and adults. If your level is not running or the group is full, we open a new one on request.
Where we are, and how far it is
Our centre is at 1 Alex Nkrumah Street in Airport West, Accra, a few minutes from Airport Residential and easy to reach from Dzorwulu, Cantonments, Labone, East Legon and Abelemkpe. Most of our families drive between ten and twenty five minutes, and we plan the timetable around school pick up times rather than against them.
Because we teach in groups of no more than four, a lesson here is an hour of actual speaking rather than an hour of waiting your turn, which is what makes the drive worth it. There is parking at the door and a reception area where parents are welcome to wait.
You can see the current group times on the timetable, and the full address and opening hours on the contact page.
Common Questions
How long is a lesson?
Sixty minutes, for every age group. What changes with age is what happens inside the hour. With the youngest there is more speaking, singing and moving and very little writing, while older learners spend more time on reading, writing and grammar.
How do you work out my level, or my child’s?
Usually in the free trial lesson. You take a lesson rather than a test, and by the end we know which group fits. With children we also watch how the first week or two go in the group, because how a child actually keeps up says more than a score on paper. For adults working towards a Goethe exam with a deadline, we can add a short written check, so you know exactly how far you are from A1, B1 or B2.
Can we start at any time?
Yes. We do not run terms, so there is no waiting for a new course to begin. Groups are formed by age and level, and we will tell you which one currently has space. Until a group is full, a course can also start one-to-one.
How many learners are in a group?
Never more than four in person. That is the whole point of how we teach: with four learners everyone speaks in every lesson, gets corrected, and can ask a question without waiting for a turn.
Which levels do you teach?
From the first words at age three up to C2. Adults are prepared for the Goethe-Zertifikat at the level their plans require: A1 for family reunification, B1 for most Ausbildung programmes, B2 for regulated professions such as nursing.
What does it cost?
Study Start is one lesson a week at GHS 1,200 a month, Study Pro two lessons at GHS 2,200, Study Plus three lessons at GHS 3,200. Materials and marked homework are included, there is no registration fee, and membership can be cancelled monthly. A 10% family discount applies from the second family member, 15% from the third.
My child already speaks German at home. Is this the right place?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons families come to us. Children who speak German at home usually understand a great deal but write little, because school and daily life happen in English. We place by level, not by age alone, so those children work on reading, spelling and writing instead of repeating first words.
Do you teach online?
Adults can have online lessons on request. Children and teenagers we teach in person in Airport West, because at that age the group in the room is half of what makes it work.
