German lessons built around every learner
Studyfreunde is a German language centre in Airport West, Accra, founded in 2025 by Vanessa, a native German speaker with a Master of Education. We teach German to preschoolers and to children and teenagers from three to nineteen, in a warm learning environment where every learner is known and supported, and parents are welcome to learn too.
Accra is home to a growing community of families with connections to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and of families who want their children to grow up with German. Many of the children we teach speak German at home but go to English-speaking schools, so their reading and writing fall behind. Studyfreunde was created to offer German classes in Accra that combine professional teaching with the individual attention of a small learning environment.
Our groups are intentionally small, with a maximum of four learners, giving every child more chances to speak, ask questions and receive individual feedback. Lessons are structured around each learner’s age, level and goals, with a strong focus on building the confidence to understand and use German independently.
Beyond the classroom, families can borrow from our German library, and every Saturday there is something in German: the Spielgruppe, the Jugendtreff and the Familien-Café.

Meet Vanessa
Native German speaker with a Master of Education, founder and the educational heart behind Studyfreunde
Vanessa
Born and raised in Germany, Vanessa holds a Master of Education and founded Studyfreunde in Accra in 2025. She moved to Accra with a passion for German lessons that combine professional teaching with the personal attention learners often miss in larger language schools.
Her teaching is structured, encouraging and adapted to the individual learner. From young children discovering their first German words to teenagers preparing for a Goethe exam, she believes that learners make the best progress when they feel confident, understood and actively involved in the learning process.
Today Vanessa leads a small team of teachers whom she trains herself and plans the lessons with, so the same approach runs through every group: small learning environments, thoughtful teaching and German lessons designed around real learners. How do I start learning at Studyfreunde?
Get in touch through our trial lesson form, by email or on WhatsApp. Tell us about your child and we will recommend the right programme and group. Every new learner starts with a free trial lesson before committing.
Does my child need any prior knowledge to join?
Not at all. All our programmes welcome complete beginners, and we meet every child exactly where they are, whether they have never heard German before or already speak it at home.
What is the difference between German for Preschoolers and Children and Teens?
German for Preschoolers introduces German to children aged 3 to 5 through songs, stories, games and movement. Children and Teens, for ages 6 to 19, matches each learner’s level and goals, developing speaking, listening, reading and writing with personal attention.
Can parents learn too?
Yes. Parents and family members of children who learn with us can take lessons of their own. See Parents learn too.
How many learners are in each group?
We keep our in-person groups small by design, with a maximum of 4 learners per group. This ensures every learner receives real attention, personalised feedback and meaningful progress in every lesson.
What if I need to cancel a lesson?
Please cancel by 6pm on the day before your lesson. You can then make up one lesson per month in another group at the same level with a free place, within four weeks. Later cancellations cannot be replaced or refunded.
Do you offer a family discount?
Yes. A 10% family discount applies from the second family member enrolled, and 15% from the third.
