German tutor in Accra
If you are looking for a German tutor in Accra, the first question is usually whether you will actually get attention or sit in a room with twenty other people. At Studyfreunde nobody sits in a room with twenty other people. Every group has a maximum of four learners, and depending on your level you may well start one to one.
When your lessons start as one to one
We open groups by level, not by date. That means if nobody else is currently learning at your level, you begin alone with the teacher, as Einzelunterricht, and the group forms around you as others at the same level join. Until that happens you have the full hour to yourself.
This is worth understanding properly, because it is unusual: you pay the normal plan price either way. Private tuition at a group price is not a special offer we run, it is simply what happens when your level is new. Uncommon levels and levels above B1 start this way most often.
When a group does form, it never grows beyond four people. So the change is from one to one to nearly one to one, not from private tuition to a lecture.
German tutoring for school
Many of the children we teach come from bilingual families. One parent speaks German, but it is not the everyday language at home, and the child often understands far more than they can read, write or say. Parents come to us so their child can read and write German properly and speak it with confidence. We call this Nachhilfe: support that builds on what the child already brings from home rather than starting from zero. It covers reading and writing practice, speaking, and the gaps that open up when a child hears German at home but has never been taught to read it.
We do not work through a textbook page by page, because every child arrives with a different mix of what they can already do. We start with what the child cannot do yet, whether that is reading fluently, spelling, or forming full sentences out loud, and build from there.
How we teach
Lessons at Studyfreunde are visual and active. New words come with picture cards and real objects, so you see and touch what you are learning and remember it quickly. We repeat vocabulary through games rather than lists, and every lesson has time for real conversation: ordering at the bakery, telling a story, describing your weekend. Grammar is explained when you need it, in short steps, and practised straight away in speaking and writing.
For children this means songs, movement and role play. For teenagers and adults it means conversation, reading and writing practice built around your goals, whether that is school, the Goethe exam or everyday life in a German-speaking family.
Who teaches
All lessons are taught by Vanessa, a German native speaker with a Master of Education. You speak to the person who will teach you from the first message onwards, and there is no rotating pool of tutors and no matching platform in between. You can write to us in German or in English.
What it costs, and how to start
The three plans cover one, two or three lessons a week and each lesson is a full 60 minutes rather than 45. The prices are on the pricing and enrolment page, and they do not change if your lessons happen to be one to one at the start.
